PTA May Meeting & Elections

This is a reminder that this Thursday will be the PTA General Meeting for May.

We will be hosting the PTA and SLT elections for 2021-2022 school year.

Please make sure to RSVP for this meeting. You will need a verification code in order to vote during the elections.

This code will be sent out to qualifying PTA members who RSVP'd to the meeting along with the agenda, meeting minutes, Zoom login and etc on THURSDAY (5/20).

The Racial Equity Committee is inviting all AEA families to a virtual afternoon of fun and learning about the artist Amy Sherald. On Wednesday, April 28 at 4pm, they will be reading a book, talking about Amy Sherald's art and facilitating an art activity. Everybody is welcome to join! The event will last 45-60 minutes.

Courses for Families to Support Students in Hybrid and Remote Learning

The DOE invites families to participate in a three-part Parent University virtual series called “Making Learning Work.” The courses include a user-friendly family guide with practical resources, tools, and tips to help students learn at home and school, and build and sustain meaningful relationships. Courses will be conducted in English and Spanish and taught by DOE partners at Columbia University’s Center for Public Research and Leadership.

The Brooklyn and Queens South Borough Offices offer Time of Mindfulness for Students, Families, and Educators. The 45-minute event will feature three practices on conscious breathing, chair yoga and movement, and a closing meditation practice. These practices are designed to help both students and adults foster skills to reduce anxiety, recognize trauma, develop stress-resilience, and cultivate clarity and calm.

A few quick welcome back reminders:

  • Students in Cohorts A and C will return to the school building on Monday, January 4th.

  • Students in Cohort B will return to the school building on Monday, January 11th.

  • Please remember that students who have recently traveled outside of New York to a place on the State’s travel advisory list must quarantine for 14 days. You also have the option of testing out of quarantine based on the State’s guidelines: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory. Students should continue to complete the health questionnaire daily.

We would like to share that the Equity and Access office will be offering Parents/Guardians an opportunity to share and experience an Implicit Bias Workshop. The (IB) Workshop will be two sessions beginning on Monday, December 14th and Thursday, December 17th at 6pm. Participants must attend both sessions.  Attached below is the link for the Parents/ Guardians to fill out. ​

The Queens South Student Service division, in partnership with the Child Mind Institute, is presenting a webinar on Grief and Loss during the holidays and to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.  The webinar will be on December 10th from 5:00-6:00  See registration link below.

As per the Mayor and Chancellor's directives, no student in grades 1-5 will be permitted to return to school without a Covid-19 consent to test form on file.  Please note that Pre-K and Kindergarten students are exempt from this mandate.  We ask that you complete this form by Thursday, Dec 3rd so that it is reflected in our computer system by Monday when Cohorts B and C return to in person learning.

Also, please adhere to the criteria set forth to put in for a waiver if necessary. All documentation must be handed in prior to the 7th for Cohort B and C.

 

Here is a short instruction (and screenshot) on submitting/re-submitting consent for COVID-19 testing at mystudent.nyc:  

  1. log into the website and your child(ren)'s info should be there (if not, you may have to complete online access);

  2. click on Manage Account;  

  3. click on Consent Forms;

  4. click the checkbox at the bottom of the page; and

  5. click consent / re-consent (depending on whether you've consented before).

As per the NYC Chancellor's Office we will continue our full remote learning this week. In school learning will resume on Monday, December 7th.  Cohort B is scheduled to attend in school learning that week. We will be sending out more information in the upcoming week.

Using the link below, please view the QR code with the DOE Health Screening Survey that must be filled out before entering the school building each day. This includes your children, as well as you if you are visiting the building for any reason. The website is also listed, in case you can't use the QR code.  You must do this at home daily, and be prepared to show proof of results at the school. The link is also posted in the "Important Links" section under DOE links.  On the form please write "Lobby" as the floor you are visiting .

Our Exception Plan was approved! The model we will be using when we reopen is:

PreK-4th Grade- Alternating Weeks In-Person, Full Days, M-F (Groups A & B)

5th Grade & Students in grades 2-4 with IEPs who opted for Blended Learning- Full Time In-Person, Full Days, M-F (Group C)

Full Time Remote (Group D)

Schedules

Please complete the form below in order to receive your child/ren's Cohort Schedule(s) for September. One form must be completed per child. Also, we will be sending it to only ONE email address. Thank you for your cooperation.

We are asking ALL families to complete this form even if your child/ren will be going Full Time Remote since Full Time Remote is also a Cohort. Thank you!

The annual NYC DOE School Survey is open.  When logging in, families will be asked for a survey access code.  This code is your child's OSIS number.  Families will enter "f" followed by their child's nine-digit Student Identification (OSIS) Number to access the survey. Note that "f" must be lowercase.  An example of how this will be entered would be:  f123456789

A student's OSIS number can be found on their report card or in the family's NYCSA account.

 

Please go to NYCSchoolSurvey.org to access the survey. As a reminder the 2021 NYC School Survey administration window is May 10 to June 11.

The DOE is happy to offer a new Summer Program called "Summer Rising" Take a look at the information below: 

  • Go to schools.nyc.gov/summer to learn where your school’s Summer Rising program is located for summer, and which CBOs will be partnering with the school;

  • Complete this Summer Rising interest survey, which will allow someone to contact the family to let them know when your school’s program site has been added and to help them through the registration process; and

  • Create an account on the discoverDYCD site. This will allow families to receive weekly emails from DYCD letting them know which programs have been added.
